The alignment reference station system

If you want to design one Alignment with several reference segments in Autodesk Civil 3D you can do it fast and easily.
This method is useful in some cases when you want to design something in the reference station system in spite of the global station system.

The reference station system has its own stations in each of its segment.

For example in the figure below a road on the reference points 10-20-30-40-50-60-70 can be designed
in one alignment and the stations can be set on each of the reference segment separately.

1. Select Alignment from Toolspace where you want to set the reference segments and select Properties,

2. Select Station Control and choose Station equations next click the Add station equation button,

3. Select a new Station equation,

4. In the Station equation table:

– Set a number or a name of the reference segment e.g. Equation = 20
(you can also set the name e.g. 20A)

– Set a station of the reference point e.g. Station Ahead = 0+000.00
– Select the Increasing option from Increase/Decrease
– Optionally you can add a comment e.g. Comment = Segment 20
– Add all the reference points you need

5. Select Settings from Toolspace

6. Select Label Styles from the Alignment node and next choose the Station Equation

7. Click New… and add your new style

8. Give it a meaningful name e.g. myStationEquation

9. Add a new element Line

– Set the Start point anchor point = Anchor Station
– Set the Fixed Length = 65mm
– Set the Angle = 270.0000 (d)

10. Add a new element Text

– Give it a meaningful name e.g. Station Ahead
– Set the Anchor Component = Line
– Set the Anchor Point = End
– Set the Attachment = Bottom right

– Set the Contents = Properties:

SEGMENT:<[Station Equation ID(CP)]>
STA AHEAD = <[Station Ahead(Um|FS|P2|RN|AP|Sn|TP|B3|EN|W0|OF)]>

11. Add a new element Text

– Give it a meaningful name e.g. Station Back
– Set the Anchor Component = Station Ahead
– Set the Anchor Point = Bottom Left
– Set the Attachment = Top left

– Set the Contents = Properties:

STA BACK = <[Station Back(Um|FS|P2|RN|AP|Sn|TP|B3|EN|W0|OF)]>

12. Choose Annotate and select your alignment

13. Select the Add/Edit Station Labels option from the Add Labels

14. Select Station Equations from Type: and next choose myStationEquation from the Station Equation Label Style

15. Click the OK button

 

You can also make the label which shows segments on your Profile view

16. Select Settings from Toolspace,

17. Select Band Styles from the Profile View node and next choose Profile Data,

18. Click New… and add your new style,

19. Give it a meaningful name e.g. myStationEquation,

20. Select Display and change Labels at Station Equations to the Visibile status,

21. Change other Type Components to the Invisible status,

22. Select Band Details and next choose Station Equation form Labels and ticks At:

23. Click the Compose label… button,

24. Create a new Line element and give it a meaningful name e.g. LineElement,

– Set the Start point anchor point = Band Bottom
– Set the Fixed Length = 14.00mm
– Set the Angle = 270.0000(d)

25. Create a new Block element and give it a meaningful name e.g. BlockElement,

– Set the Anchor Component = LineElement
– Set the Anchor Pont = End
– Select the Block name = AeccArrow
– Set the Block Height = 12.00mm
– Set the Rotation Angle = 90.0000(d)
– Set the Attachment = Middle left

26. Create a new Text element and give it a meaningful name e.g. TextDesc,

– Set the Anchor Component = BlockElement
– Set the Anchor Point = Bottom Right
– Set the Text Height = 3.50mm
– Set the Attachment = Middle left
– Set the Contents – SEGMENT:<[Station Equation ID(CP)]>

27. Choose your Profile View and select Profile View Properties,

28. Select Bands and next choose from the Band type: Profile Data,

29. Select myStationEquation from the Select band style:

30. Click the Add button,

31. Choose the Alignment Points and Deselect All Point,

32. Choose the Profile Point and Deselect All Point,

33. Move myStationEquation to the bottom and set the proper value of the Gap,

34. Click the OK button,
